Thank you, Benjamin Franklin

So...the electrician is here to wire up the studio. I'm starting to get excited, but moving day still seems so far away, as there will still be much to do (insulation, paneling, etc.). This is the biggest leap of faith I've ever taken!

An interesting bit of trivia...did you know Benjamin Franklin was the tenth son of a soapmaker?

More candles...

Just listed a couple more on Etsy. I PROMISE y'all, I've been making candles for about 8 years so I know what I'm doing as far as production. I've just never been one to take a picture of every little thing I make, so sometimes it takes me a bit to get something listed...depending on production. This whole Etsy thing does now have me taking quite a few more pics than I normally do.

Blackberry Sage - Tart ripe blackberries combine with cleansing sage in the room-filling scent! 7.0 oz. net weight.

Creme de la Creme - This is a wonderful bakery scent! Very rich with notes of creamy butter and vanilla. 7.0 oz. net weight.

Introducing...

The future studio space for A Woman with Scents! I need an electrician, insulation, and panelling...then I can move in! YAY! No more soap and candles in the kitchen...my family might actually get a home cooked meal for a change. =)

Let's talk about votive candles...

This is a beeswax votive candle. Votive candles are generally made to liquify, so it is best to burn them in a tight fitting votive holder rather than letting them burn as a free-standing candle. The object here, is to keep the fuel source (wax) as close to the wick as possible. When left to their own devices as free standing candles, most votives will have a "blowout" somewhere in the side of the shell that will spill the melted wax down the side, thus causing the candle to burn more quickly. A properly wicked votive in a tight fitting holder should burn for a minimum of 15 hours, although it is not uncommon for them to last as long as 18 hours.

Votive candles are a great way to try out new scents, without committing to the hours and hours it takes to burn larger container or pillar candles! Remember to extinguish your candles by dipping the wick in the melt pool (no smoke!) and never leave a burning candle unattended.

Beeswax votive candles can be purchased here.

New Stuff

Whilst I was at work at my "real" job yesterday, one of my favorite people came to visit me...my mail carrier! With her she brought some new (to me) fragrances from Flicker's Fragrances.

I've been looking for a wonderful Lavender fragrance oil, and I think I've found it! Of course I'll have to test it first, but the out-of-bottle experience is awesome. Now, I understand that Lavender is one of those love it or hate it scents...I personally love it. I also understand that purists will expect Lavender essential oil, but I've tried it and for whatever reason, I can't get it to stick in my soap.

Anyway, this is a wonderful French Lavender scent, and I can't wait to soap it!

Dear mail carrier also brought Green Irish Tweed. This is one that's very new to me. Smells like a sexy man! I guess it's time to start making more manly soaps, so I can appeal to a larger demographic...another I can't wait to soap!

Last, but certainly not least in my Flicker's goody box was a fresh lb. of Pomegranate Peach. I've soaped this one before, and it's quickly become my new favorite scent for spring/summer. Tart and sweet, with just the right amount of "peachy". This soap can currently be purchased from my Etsy shop.
